Blogoree.ro Forum

ENîn engleză July 12, 2006

The Blogoree.ro Forum has been launched today. I hope it will prove to be a good resource for all Romanian bloggers in their effort to improve the way they blog. And I do not mean the way they write, which is their own decision, but the way they use the blogging tools they find on the web.

Switching to Linux

ENîn engleză July 15, 2006

I am testing the bloGTK linux desktop publighing tool in order to see if I can use it from my newly aquired notebook that has Ubuntu Linux installed (my choice).

It seems it works, though, unlike w.bloggar, which is the best desktop blogging tool (unfortunately with no version for Linux, but only for Windows), it has a problem with getting the categories, hence forcing me to post drafts and publishing the posts from the dashboard (a thing I would have wanted to avoid).

More, custom tags aren’t yet working (or I am not able to make them work).

All and all, this is my first post from Linux and I have to say, it will become as smooth as my WindowsXP installed desktop.

USA gamblers, you are welcome in Romania!

ENîn engleză July 20, 2006

Sounds strange, isn’t it? :) Well, it might not be that strange when you will find out that US Government wants to promote a law that will ban online gambling in USA.

Representatives voted 317-93 to ban online gambling today in a law that many are calling “simply unenforcable”.

You have to understand that, though it sounds stupid, a similar law has been passed in Washington State so, this is possible.

As a consequence, I say we should start, in Romania, special internet-cafe’s for the US citizens fleeding to calmer waters in order to keep their addiction alive.

Google Adsense Site Diagnostics

ENîn engleză July 21, 2006

Google has finally launched Adsense Site Diagnostics. Some people announced it earlier, but it was only a test, since the option was soon to be taken off the Adsense Control Panel.

However, today I was able to see it in action, so I took a screenshot (see it below, click on it for a bigger image)

More, you can see how my Ubuntu desktop looks. Isn’t it looking smokin’? :D

Promote Photoshop tutorials sites: 3 tips, 3 sites

ENîn engleză July 23, 2006

I was reading the earnersforum yesterday and find out this topic on what to do with $50 to promote a tutorial site. First, I wanted to write an answer, but figured out the topic could very well be a blog post.

I have recently tested the opportunity of creating Photoshop Tutorial sites. Still, I had two big problems: I had no idea of Photoshop (resizing an image and saving it for the Web is not really rocket science, isn’t it?) and I had no idea where to promote such a site, since there were a lot of similar sites all over the web.

After some searching through the topics at Sitepoint forums, I have found that:

  1. I could buy the tutorials, if necessary, from Sitepoint members or from freelance sites.
  2. There are sites that promote Photoshop tutorials that are worthy of promoting.

The sites that are worthy of mentioning, in my opinion, from a two months test experience (I spent about $30-40 and got a return of around $150 without any optimization on page, any Adsense optimization aso. Just a simple free Wordpress theme on the Wordpress.org script. ) were only 3. After those 2 months, I got bored. Yeah, it is true that you have to write about things you like and know when blogging :) . My cousin, that knows Photoshop, has made his own site that was bringing around $450/month in 6 months (he sold it at that point). I have included in this article both his and mine experiences. Note: bear in mind that I bought the tutorials really cheap (around $5).

So, which are the sites that really worth submitting tutorials to (by regard of traffic, of course, and IBL):

  • Good - Tutorials. PR7 on the homepage, if you can get on the first page for several hours, you would have around 4-5000 visits in that period of time. They check the tutorials for increased quality, but the traffic that it brings gives you the best income. They usually accept around 2-3 tutorials a week from the same site (every tuesday). More, they do not use framed websites.
  • Tutorialized.com. PR6 on the homepage, they accepted all the tutorials I have submitted to. You might get a bigger number of visits, but the quality of traffic (from an income point of view) is lower. They use to frame the website with the tutorial.
  • Pixel2life.com. PR6 on the home page, they bring quite some traffic, but they accept tutorials on a very irregular schedule. Again, in a frame.

There were a lot more sites where you can put your tutorials, but these were the ones that actually got out of the crowd.

You can see some more sites on this page.

3 tips:

  • the best results traffic-wise I have seen from tutorials on Photo effects and forum signatures;
  • take into consideration the publishing schedule of every site you submit tutorials to (Good Tutorials on tuesdays);
  • as in blogging, create attractive titles (a title like “some really good looking female star looking dead” really catches with the public);

The conclusion: if you like Photoshop or want to learn some, create a site like that. You will both have a hobby and earn some good money along the way. Even if you do not create the tutorials yourself, but you know how to use Photoshop, it will be a great advantage, because you will know which are quality tutorials and which not.

Ubuntu User 3296

ENîn engleză July 25, 2006

It sounds like a “1984″ identification, but it is far from that. Since I started using Ubuntu, just two weeks ago, as my laptop’s default OS, I have had a great experience and I have to say that I am starting to move my desktop on Ubuntu too.

Anyway, I am Ubuntu user 3296 over at the Ubuntu Counter, a project whose point is:

The project is half novelty, half curiosity. The admin thought it would be fun to have a miniature version of The Linux Counter, especially for Ubuntu. Why? Because Ubuntu is so varied and it is nice to know what people prefer. It also gives the Ubuntu community something interactive and fun (ie the User buttons) and lets Ubuntu users proclaim their usage of the system they prefer.

Nice :D

No more searches for single words

ENîn engleză July 25, 2006

People at onestat.com have made an analysis of over 2,000,000 search queries and came with an interesting result:

Of all the search phrases world wide, 28.91 percent of the people use 2 word phrases, 27.85 percent use 3 word phrases and 17.11 percent use 4 word phrases. Less and less people use now 1 keywordsince the last measurement in July 2005.

I bolded the most important thing in this quote, in my opinion: it is not as important as it was to optimize your pages for one word queries. As people get more and more Internet savvy, they realise it is a lot more practical to search for multiple words, as it will be more likely they will find what they are looking for.

Though most SEOs already knew this, still, a report makes it a lot more official.

My first post

ENîn engleză Misc · May 21, 2007

On the new blog, obviously.

I was never good at writing first posts, but I have to. I read somewhere that the first post is important in order to set the tone for the entire blog and, why not, set some targets to achieve for myself.

As such, I would like my blog to be as informative as Darren Rowse’s Problogger, as light hearted as Shoemoney‘s, as succesful as John Chow‘s, as open about my projects as Tyler Cruz‘s and as funny as I can be (which is not much).

That’s about it for the first post. Stick around to see how’s it working in the end.
